About Internode

Internode's network is one of the first in Australia with full 'dual-stack' IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity. We're also one of the first ISP's in the world to make 'dual-stack' IPv4 and IPv6 available directly to our broadband customers!

Internode's IPv6 Network

Internode operates a 'dual-stack' (that is, IPv4 and IPv6 together) network, with global IPv6 peering and transit.

As with our IPv4 network, our IPv6 network extends to all major Australian capital cities, and our International network spans the globe - that's because it's the same high-quality network, simply with the benefits of IPv6.

World IPv6 Launch - Launch into the Future - 06-06-2012

What is IPv6?

To send and receive information over the Internet, computers and other devices need a unique address - called an IP address. The current system that provides addresses is IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4), and has been in use for the past 30 years.

As the Internet has grown, the number of available IPv4 addresses has slowly been exhausted. To accommodate the growing number of Internet users, a new Internet Protocol was required.

IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) will augment, and then slowly over time, replace IPv4. IPv6 provides many more addresses - enough to last a very long time!

What was 'World IPv6 Launch'?

Major Internet service providers (including Internode), home networking equipment manufacturers, and web companies around the world came together to permanently enable IPv6 for their products and services on 6 June 2012.

IPv6 for Internode Residential and Business Customers

NBN, ADSL2+, and Fibre Estates

All Internode Residential and Business NBN, ADSL2+ and Fibre Estates services support access to the Internet via IPv6.

IPv6 is enabled by default for new Internode customers and broadband services.

Existing Internode customers can enable IPv6 in to My Internode using the IPv6 Settings tool.

Once enabled, customers are presented with a dual-stack configuration (each login has an IPv4 and an IPv6 address), so customers have native access to both the IPv4 and IPv6 Internet. All customers receive a /56 IPv6 prefix via DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation.

All consumer broadband routers currently sold by Internode support IPv6. For more information on our broadband hardware, see our hardware page.

Direct Ethernet and Fibre services for businesses

Direct dual-stack IPv6 connectivity to our global network - with a static IPv6 address allocation (including BGP routing and IPv6 transit) - is available via Ethernet or Fibre cross-connect or to co-located/data centre customers in any of our points of presence.
