Internode opens the doors to easy customer access
Internode, which has acquired naming rights for former CGU building, has established a retail area on the ground floor, combining reception, product sales and a walk-in customer service centre. This is a big increase in convenience for customers who previously had to take an elevator to the third floor of Internode’s old office, at 132 Grenfell Street, on the other side of Hindmarsh Square.
Internode’s senior executive team, including Managing Director Simon Hackett and Internode Group General Manager Patrick Tapper, will work in the new building from today.
Record growth fuelled by strong demand for broadband services has forced the move, with Internode staff numbers topping 300 this year - a three-fold increase since 2005. The 3649-square-metre building will cope with the company’s expected growth for the next three years.
Internode Group General Manager Patrick Tapper said the new building had undergone a $1 million refit to make it convenient for both customers and employees. " The CBD has been our home since 1994, so we decided to keep this the case for the benefit of our business, staff and customers," he said.
More than 60 staff made the move to 150 Grenfell Street last weekend, November 24 and 25, joining about 80 employees already working in the new building.
Internode is about to start a second stage of renovations to the building, which will allow the remainder of its staff to finalise the move during the first quarter of 2008.
Internode is one of the outstanding successes of the Internet age in Australia. Founded in 1991, the company began selling Internet access services in 1994 with a dozen employees working from premises at York Street in the Adelaide CBD. After it began building its national broadband network, Internode moved to 132 Grenfell Street in 2002, when its head count was 36.
Internode will occupy all but one level of its new five-storey building. The property is owned by The Kambitsis Group, which is responsible for a number of significant commercial developments in Adelaide, including the Flinders Link building, on Flinders Street, which houses the new Santos office.
