Extreme ADSL2+ presence boosted in Tasmania
Internode's new ADSL2+ equipment is installed at the Howrah, Sandy Bay, Lindisfarne, Kingston and New Town exchanges in Hobart, and the South Launceston and St John exchanges in Launceston. Previously, Internode had its own ADSL2+ equipment installed only at the Davey and Bathurst exchanges in Tasmania, although it has offered ADSL2+ services through Telstra Wholesale equipment.
Internode's extended presence follows last week's announcement that it is one of just three broadband companies which will deliver the first National Broadband Network fibre-optic services in Tasmania.
This extra ADSL2+ infrastructure will enable Internode to transfer about 3000 customers from slower wholesale broadband systems to its dedicated high-speed broadband services in the next two months.
Internode managing director Simon Hackett said Internode was undertaking the 3000-customer migration because it made good business sense. "Internode's own ADSL2+ equipment gives our customers better performance and it costs us less to provide these services," he said.
"The greatest beneficiaries of this complimentary upgrade are our Internode Easy Broadband customers, many of whom will go from 1500 kilobit per second services to ADSL2+ speeds - at no extra cost."
Internode expects to add two more ADSL2+ equipped exchanges, at Bellerive and Glenorchy, to its Tasmanian coverage in the second quarter of this year.
