New broadband era starts for Alice Springs
Leveraging new communications infrastructure deployed by Nextgen Networks, Internode has installed its own DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) equipment in the Alice Springs telephone exchange. This is a major milestone for the town, marking Internode as the first competitive ADSL2+ provider to deliver alternative ADSL2+ services to those offered by Telstra.
Internode's high performance equipment gives its customers access to its affordable large data quota plans and provides them with access to new services such as IPv6, Annex M and Naked ADSL2+. It also offers greatly improved value-for-money: Internode's entry-level Easy Broadband XS plan delivers ADSL2+ broadband with a 30GB data quota from $29.95 a month* whereas the previous entry-level plan, an Easy Reach service with a 5GB data quota, cost from $39.95 a month*.
Internode product manager Jim Kellett said Internode's new services would deliver "positive outcomes" to the local community. "Internode today unleashes true broadband competition in Alice Springs"; he said.

In addition to the Alice Springs launch, Internode is well advanced in the deployment of its own DSLAM equipment into four Darwin exchange service areas (Darwin, Casuarina, Nightcliff and Palmerston).
For its customers, Internode's upgrade in Alice Springs delivers major improvements in value including:
- Larger data quotas: Internode customers in Alice Springs now have access to data quotas that are five times larger – from 200 gigabytes (GB) to 1000GB (one terabyte)
- Innovative services such as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and high speed Annex M ADLS2+ upload speeds, enabling new applications for business customers
- Naked ADSL2+, now available in Alice Springs for customers that want just broadband without the cost of a traditional analogue telephone service.
Internode has been able to install its own DSLAM equipment in Alice Springs due to the Nextgen backhaul capacity, which has significantly reduced the cost of transferring data between the Alice and Internode's core network, in Adelaide and on the east coast.
The new Nextgen fibre-optic cable connects Alice Springs with Tarcoola in SA, where it interconnects with a major fibre-optic cable between Adelaide and Perth.
* These prices refer to the cost of an Internode broadband service when it is bundled with a NodeLine telephone line.
